Chennai: A Major Commercial and Cultural Hub

Being one of the major industrial, cultural and educational centers in India located at the southern state of Tamil Nadu and the capital of the state. Chennai is among the four major metropolitan cities in India and it has a rich history and cultural heritage.

There have been rapid developments in the city, but Chennai still remains deep rooted into cultures and traditions. The city is surrounded by various historical places that were once integral parts of southern dynasties, so one could find various architectural buildings that depict its ancient heritage.

Chennai was an important port city at the times of British and in most parts of the city still English is spoken widely. It is a city that is known for manufacturing industry, technology and healthcare as several top companies have their headquarters based in the city. The city is also called the Detroit of India because the maximum numbers of car manufacturing companies have their factory setup in Chennai.

Chennai is also home to the second major movie industry after Mumbai. Some of the regional movies including Malayalam, Tamil and Telegu are produced in the city. The city is also highly rated among some of the top cultural hubs and it is known for its art & culture. Carnatic music and Bharatnatyam are some of the highly rated music & dance forms that originated from Chennai.

The city has huge number of Christians residing and this becomes quite obvious when one comes across several churches in & around the city. The city is also well connected by roads, rails and flights with other major cities in the country and this makes the city easily accessible from people from all over the country.

The cuisine of Chennai is one of the finest in the country especially seafood. Since, the city lies on the shores of Bay of Bengal, one can find wide variety of seafood that are fresh and taste really good. The warmth and the kind of help that the local people offer to tourists, it is hard to find in any other parts of the country.

Indian tourism packages allow people from all over the country and other parts of the globe to make the most of their vacation in Chennai. South India tourism is promoted by the state government to ensure that more & more people visit the city and explore the rich culture and heritage of the city and its neighboring areas.
